Last year's X Factor winner James Arthur looks likely to lose the battle for number one to New Zealand electro-pop prodigy Lorde.

16-year-old Lorde's debut, Royals, has been a hit around the world and is out-selling Arthur's You're Nobody Til Somebody Loves You by around 7,000 copies, according to mid-week sales figures from the Official Charts Company.

The singer, real name Ella Yelich-O'Connor, has had number ones in her native New Zealand, Canada and the US with the song.

Arthur's first single - a cover of Shontelle's Impossible - went straight in at number one last year following his X Factor win and was the fastest-selling single of 2012, selling an impressive 490,000 copies in its first week.

His talent show rival, winner of The Voice Andrea Begley, is on track for a top 10 place for her debut album The Message.
