X Factor may face tough competition in the race for Christmas number one as a rebel campaign has been launched to get the Star Wars theme to the top.

Simon Cowell has seen the winning contestants take seven number one’s in the last decade – but this year’s winner may not be so lucky.

“The campaign is already gathering pace and with greater publicity the anti-X Factor brigade are going to back it even more.

“Given Star Wars is going to be the biggest cinema release of the year, the tune is already going to be in everyone’s head.”

The Facebook page has amassed more than 420,000 likes and is encouraging its followers to download the theme in Christmas chart week.

''Social Media Hellraiser” Jon Morter was the mastermind behind the Rage Against the Machine 2009 Christmas campaign which saw Killing In The Name beat X Factor’s Joe McElderry in the festive chart battle.

Although rumoured to be behind the latest campaign, Morter is yet to publicly confirm or deny his involvement.
