X Factor bosses have hit back at claims that girl band 4th Power were drafted in by producers ahead of the auditions.

The ITV show found itself at the centre of ‘fix’ claims after just one episode when it emerged that the Filipino group had a professional background.

Despite impressing the judges and audience with their rendition of Jessie J’s Bang Bang, reports emerged that producers were already aware of their musical past.

A spokesperson for the show has now said: “X Factor producers did not approach Fourth Power to audition - they flew to the UK to audition of their own accord and went through exactly the same audition process as other acts.

"Their interview in the programme clearly said that they had been performing together since 2001 and had competed in various places.”

The statement added: "There are no rules preventing anyone who has appeared on other shows from applying for The X Factor."

Sisters Mylene, Celina, Irene and Almira jetted all the way from the Philippines to perform in front of Simon Cowell, Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, Rita Ora and Nick Grimshaw.

After their energetic performance, the girls walked away with four ‘yeses’, automatically putting them through to the Boot Camp stage.

An eventful first weekend for the 12th series of the show saw a number of talented wannabe stars take to the stage including 17-year-old Louisa Johnson and politics student Tom Bleasby.

Simon Cowell was left in tears after Josh Daniel’s rendition of Jealous, performed just days after the death of his mother.
