A hologram of Whitney Houston has been axed from the final of The Voice US.

The Whitney Houston Estate cancelled the scheduled duet between the artificial version of the late singer and Christina Aguilera after deciding the performance was not “ready to air”.

The singers were set to perform Houston’s hits I Have Nothing and I'm Every Woman, but it will not be broadcast as it is not “perfect”.

The executor of Houston’s estate Pat Houston issued a statement that read: “We are so appreciative of the opportunity for the Whitney Houston hologram to appear on NBC’s The Voice with a talent pairing as extraordinary as Christina Aguilera and Whitney Houston.

“We were looking to deliver a ground breaking duet performance for the fans of both artists. Holograms are a new technology that takes time to perfect, and we believe with artists of this iconic calibre, it must be perfect. Whitney’s legacy and her devoted fans deserve perfection.

“After closely viewing the performance, we decided the hologram was not ready to air. We have much respect and appreciation for Christina, and she was absolutely flawless.”

The statement comes after footage of the duet was leaked online.

News of the hologram was first announced in September 2015 and Aguilera recently revealed she had been sworn to secrecy over the details.

"I am sworn to secrecy," she told Entertainment Tonight earlier this month. "I can't say anything, but I'm very excited about the finale. Very exciting things happening."

Houston died on February 11, 2012.

Director Nick Broomfield is currently working on a film about the singer's life and recently told how he is happy to go ahead with filming without the approval of her family.
