David Mitchell's wife Victoria Coren says 'it was love at first sight'

Victoria Coren Mitchell has revealed it was love at first sight when she met comedian David Mitchell.

The TV presenter said she knew she would marry the Peep Show star after they were introduced by David Baddiel.

The pair enjoyed a short-lived romance in 2007, before reuniting three years later and marrying in November 2012.

Speaking about the moment she met Mitchell, she told Radio Times: "[Baddiel] specifically said to me, 'There's David Mitchell over there, I think you should probably marry him, I'll get the ball rolling by introducing you'.

"I thought that was ridiculous but, a couple of hours later, I thought I probably would marry him."

Coren Mitchell hosts the popular BBC quiz show Only Connect – but revealed she initially refused to film a full series because she saw herself as "an intellectual, not a quiz show host".

The presenter said she had a change of opinion after filming the pilot and was "scratching at the door to be let in".

She said she can relate to the contestants who "proudly say they are nerds", but revealed she struggles to read from an autocue and instead memorises her opening monologue on the show.

"I'm too short-sighted, too squeamish for contact lenses and too vain for glasses," she said.
