The wild Australian jungle, full of scary animals, creepy crawlies and Tory MPs that go bump in the night – it’s not exactly the ideal holiday destination for someone who sleeps with the light on at home.

And this is what wimpy Helen Flanagan is discovering as she failed yet another trial on last night's I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here.

The former Coronation Star was to face the Cruelty Towers challenge, an ordeal that should have seen her groping around a series of darkened rooms filled with snakes, spiders, an ostrich and a crocodile to find stars that would earn her team food.

But Flanagan didn't get within a whisker of the wildlife, as no sooner had the lights gone out than she was squealing to hosts Ant and Dec to “get me out of here”.

The actress, who had told her camp-mates she felt “chilled” before the challenge, soon regretted her decision and begged to be allowed to go back into the building, saying: “I didn’t realise it was going to go dark, that freaked me out. I feel really stupid.”

But before the challenge she had admitted: "It just makes me want to go home, if they're going to do this to me every single day I want to go home."

Latest contestant Limahl has also confessed he is afraid of the dark and sleeps with the light on at home – though this will be little consolation to Flanagan, who has been selected to take part in this evening’s Bushtucker Trial alongside EastEnders star Charlie Brooks.

Brooks and Ashley Roberts had more luck on last night’s show, as they completed a treasure hunt to win a plate of chocolate biscuits.
