Tom Hardy looks set to send social media into meltdown for a second time as he makes his return to CBeebies.

The actor, 39, will no doubt send pulses racing when he returns to the children’s TV channel for Bedtime Stories on Valentine’s Day.

Hardy, who is famed for his villainous roles as Ronnie and Reggie Kray, and Bane in The Dark Knight Rises, will be shaking his hard man exterior to read The Cloudspotter by Tom McLaughlin alongside his dog, Woody.

Fans were quick to praise the news on Facebook with one writing: “Whoever does the marketing for cbeebies is a genius!!!!”

Another suggested: “Let's just be honest.... (because we're all thinking it, right?)...he should definitely just become a permanent fixture on the reading of the bedtime story. Very happy single mammy here!”

A third wrote: “CBeebies your service to children is among the best, your service to us Mum's surpasses even that. I salute you and thank you from the bottom of my ever so fluttery heart and butterfly filled stomach.”

Hardy’s first stint on the show was deemed the “stuff of dreams” by parents and fans who tuned in to watch his debut on New Year’s Eve.

One female fan tweeted: “I am a 28 year old woman. I am watching CBeebies Bedtime Stories because of Tom Hardy.”

Another posted: “Tom Hardy reading bed time stories on CBeebies made my ovaries ache so much.”

A third wrote: “I am deeply in love with Tom Hardy even more after watching him read the bedtime story on CBeebies.”

Others joked that they had forced their children to watch the programme with one writing: “Today I made the children watch tom hardy reading a story on CBeebies bedtime stories for my own personal benefit.”

Rob Brydon, James McAvoy, David Tennant, Isla Fisher, Damian Lewis and Edith Bowman are among the celebrities who have read stories in the past.
