Tom Hanks has proved he really is the nicest celebrity.

The award winning actor, 60, reached out to a fan to help her win a bet she made with her friends by sending her a selfie and a lengthy note.

Zena Gopal wrote to Hanks to praise his work for the 1996 film That Thing You Do!. It was part of a bet she made with friends to see who could get a famous person to reply to them with a selfie.

Proving that he is a fan-friendly A-lister, Hanks sent her a “scary” Polaroid picture of himself posing alongside a picture of Gopal.

Hanks included a typewritten note on paper with the masthead “Hanx”.

The Forrest Gump star waxed lyrical about Gopal’s hometown of Toronto and asked if she was ready for Christmas, before explaining his picture.

“Sorry for the beard, but I have some shooting coming up and I must have whiskers,” he wrote. “And, my headshot is not all that current. Taken long ago and I’d come off vain sending along.

Addressing Gopal’s love for That Thing You Do! he said: “For the record, I still find myself humming some of the music from That Thing You Do! like you. I was always partial to the songs Dance With Me Tonight and Drive Faster.”

He finished: “This Polaroid has been developing as I have been typing. The thing is scary…

“Throw deep, always.”

Hanks’ latest act of kindness comes months after he posted a selfie with a bride and groom after he accidentally crashed their wedding while jogging in New York’s Central Park.

He shared the special moment on Twitter with the caption: “Elizabeth and Ryan! Congrats and blessings! Hanx.”

The Academy award winning actor has also made a habit of attempting to reunite New Yorker’s with their lost items of clothing by posting pictures and information on Twitter.
