X Factor star Lauren Platt has admitted that she wants to focus on being a TV presenter rather than a pop star.

The singer, who finished in fourth place in last year’s show, has admitted that falling ill during the tour has forced her to re-evaluate her future.

Speaking on Good Morning Britain, the 17-year-old said: “I had to take a little bit of a backseat from singing because I got really really ill just before and just after The X Factor tour.

“Well, actually, I got ill while I was on the show really but it wasn't picked up on.”

Platt added: “So yeah, I did take a bit of a backseat. I panicked at the time but do you know what? I think it was a blessing in disguise.

“I still love singing but I've found so many different avenues that I love doing instead, like presenting.”

Her YouTube channel started gaining momentum after the X Factor wrapped, prompting the BBC to offer her a presenting role on the forthcoming Got What It Takes.

But Platt hasn’t dropped singing altogether and has debuted a number of cover songs on her YouTube account, including a rendition of King by Years & Years.
