Louis Tomlinson is reportedly being lined up to appear alongside Simon Cowell at judges’ houses on The X Factor.

The One Direction star, who found fame on the show back in 2010, is thought to have been drafted in by producers in a bid to boot ratings.

A source has told The Sun: “Simon is pulling out the big guns as he is still determined to make this series a huge success.

“One Direction have always been big ratings winners and Louis is the most outspoken of the band. He won't be afraid to tell people if they're terrible, which Simon loves.”

Tomlinson recently admitted that he was still a huge fan of the show and was even thought to have been considered to join the panel as a judge.

Because of his relentless touring schedule , Cowell drafted in Rita Ora and Nick Grimshaw to join him and returning judge Cheryl Fernandez-Versini.

The former Girls aloud star is rumoured to have enlisted the help of Louis Walsh as her guest mentor.

A source told The Daily Star: “It’s not been finalised which guest will help which judge but it’s likely Louis will be with Cheryl. The two of them love sparring, which is bound to make great TV.

"A lot of viewers have been saying it’s not the same without Louis making his jokes and wheeling out the clichés. It was a no-brainer to bring him back."

The X Factor was beaten by Strictly Come Dancing in this weekend’s ratings battle, with the ITV show drawing 7.5 million viewers on Saturday night and the BBC show launching with 8.7 million.
