The Stone Roses are preparing to release a new album – more than 20 years after their second, according to reports.

Fans have been awaiting a new album since the band first announced they were reuniting in 2012.

The album – which will be a follow-up to 1994's Second Coming – would coincide with the band’s gigs this summer.

According to the Daily Mirror a source said: “Ian Brown and the lads have been busy getting their next album ready. It will be album number three.

“It’s a long time coming but they feel the time is right now.

"They’ve been back in the studio. Everyone is very excited about it.”

The claim comes a year after bassist, Mani told The Sun that the band had been “working on a few bits”.

The Manchester four piece - which formed in 1983 and is fornted by Ian Brown - will play Scotland's T in the Park this summer, along with a string of sold-out nights at Manchester's Etihad Stadium.

They are also among the rumoured names to headline Glastonbury Festival.

Standard Online has contacted a representative for the band for comment.
