The Script say they warm up before gigs by sparring backstage — and sometimes leave one another “genuinely bruised”.

Lead singer Danny O’Donoghue, 39, and guitarist Mark Sheehan, 42, said the band, which also consists of drummer Glen Power, 40, do yoga and boxing before a performance.

Sheehan told A-List: “We usually spar each other [before going on stage]. We do a bit of Thai boxing — so we kick the c***out of each other.

"A lot of people don’t know when we’re on stage that we’re genuinely bruised — no joke.”

The group, who formed in Dublin, said they dream of training with heavyweight world champion Anthony Joshua. Sheehan said: “I’d never challenge Anthony but I’d love to train with him. I’d love him to train us. That would be really good fun.”

The three-piece band are currently making another album.

Speaking at the Music Industry Trusts Awards this week, they said they had also been asked to write songs for a musical — but did not reveal which one.

O’Donoghue said: “I think every musician has a dream of putting on their life story as a play. [Being involved in a musical] takes a lot of time — but it’s in music, so we’d love to do it."
