Taylor Swift has surprise-revealed on Instagram she will be releasing brand new album titled Folklore.

The 30-year-old, who released her seventh studio album Lover last year following a two-year hiatus, recorded the new LP while in lockdown.

Updating her Instagram with a mosaic of her standing in woodland, Swift captioned the post: "Most of the things I had planned this summer didn’t end up happening, but there is something I hadn’t planned on that DID happen. And that thing is my 8th studio album, folklore. Surprise!

"Tonight at midnight I’ll be releasing my entire brand new album of songs I’ve poured all of my whims, dreams, fears, and musings into. I wrote and recorded this music in isolation but got to collaborate with some musical heroes of mine."

The singer went on to explain how recording the latest track while in quarantine changed her usual way of thinking.

"Before this year I probably would’ve overthought when to release this music at the ‘perfect’ time, but the times we’re living in keep reminding me that nothing is guaranteed," Swift said.

"My gut is telling me that if you make something you love, you should just put it out into the world. That’s the side of uncertainty I can get on board with.

"Love you guys so much."

The 17-track album features a collaboration with Up in the Woods artist Bon Iver, whom Swift cited as a "musical hero."

The tracklist includes:

1. The 1

2. Cardigan

3. The Last American Dynasty

4. Exile (ft. Bon Iver)

5. My Tears Riochet

6. Mirrorball

7. Seven

8. August

9. This Is Me Trying

10. Illicit Affairs

11. Invisible String

12. Mad Woman

13. Epiphany

14. Betty

15. Peace

16. Hoax

17. Bonus Track: The Lakes

In addition to the new album, Swift revealed she will be releasing the music video for Cardigan tonight:

Folklore comes after Swift's 2020 tour Lover Fest was cancelled due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

“I'm so sad I won't be able to see you guys in concert this year, but I know this is the right decision,” the pop star tweeted in April.

"Please, please stay healthy and safe. I’ll see you on stage as soon as I can but right now what’s important is committing to this quarantine, for the sake of all of us."

Swift's original tour dates have since been rescheduled for 2021, and will now likely feature tracks from Folklore.
