Newsreader Susanna Reid was full of praise for her Good Morning Britain co-host Ben Shephard today and described him as her “dream man”.

Reid was congratulating Shephard after he was nominated on the National Television Awards' longlist for the Best Presenter accolade.

The former Strictly Come Dancing star said: "He's very sheepish about this and he's trying to keep it very low key. We're not though, we're completely celebrating the fact that he is, in our opinion, the best presenter."

She then showed a montage of his best bits from his time on the ITV breakfast show and gushed: "Honestly, you're like, literally, everybody's hero." To which Shephard asked: "Am I like your dream man?"

Reid replied: "You are my dream man. But you're married so it's just … it's off the agenda."

Shephard then quipped, "That's never bothered me in the past … that's a JOKE by the way!" before Reid apologised to Shephard’s wife Annie Perks, saying: "Sorry Annie … you're so naughty!"

Earlier this week, Reid's soon-to-be co-host Piers Morgan defended the way she interviews following comments that she is too flrtatious.

The Life Stories presenter said: “She's damned if she does, damned if she doesn't. I can flirt away with anyone when I do my Life Stories and nobody gives a damn. But the moment she has a laugh with David Beckham, or the Prime Minister, suddenly she's being disgraceful and flirting too much.

"I think it's pathetic, I really do. I think she's a very good interviewer, she likes light and shade, she can be serious, she can be frivolous – that's all the things you want in an interviewer."
