Hollywood star Susan Sarandon has spoken of her "open" sexuality in a candid interview.

The actress, 70, said: "my sexual orientation is up for grabs, I guess you could say," in the interview with PrideSource.

Remarking on her past relationships, the Dead Man Walking star said she was once in a happy relationship with a gay actor, Philip Sayer, she met when he was her co-star in the 1973 vampire film, The Hunger.

"Well, I did at one point have a very successful and very loving and wonderful affair with a man who then wasn't with another woman after me, and that worked out fine!" she explained.

"I don't think you had to declare yourself as rigidly as you do now in terms of having to declare yourself almost politically about your sexual preference," she added.

Miss Sarandon, who co-starred with Geena Davis in Thelma and Louise, was married to Chris Sarandon from 1967 until 1979 before relationships with David Bowie and director Louis Malle.

She had a daughter Eva Amurri with Italian filmmaker Franco Amurri and her long-term relationship with Tim Robbins resulted in two sons: Jack and Miles.

But she insists that despite her long dating history she still hasn’t had the opportunity to explore her sexuality. "I'm a serial monogamist, so I haven't really had a large dating career," she said.

"I married Chris Sarandon when I was 20, and that went on for quite a while — each of my relationships have," she added.

"I haven't exactly been in the midst of a lot of offers of any kind. I'm still not! I don't know what's going on!" she added.
