Mark Hamil and John Boyego have backed a campaign to let a terminally ill fan see the new Star Wars film early.

Veteran Star Wars actor Hamil, who plays Luke Skywalker, and The Force Awaken’s Boyego, have both supported Daniel Fleetwood in his bid to see the film ahead of its general release.

Both stars have tweeted the hashtag “#ForceForDaniel” in an attempt to catch the attention of Walt Disney Studios.

Fleetwood, 32, who has been a huge fan of the film franchise since he was a child, is suffering from spindle cell sarcoma, which is a rare form of tissue cancer.

In July Fleetwood was told by doctors that he only had two months to live.

His wife Ashley has set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for her husband’s medical bills and help draw attention to the Star Wars campaign.

Speaking to Houston’s KPRC-TV, Fleetwood said that it was unlikely that he would be around for the December 18 release date.

He said: “Judging by how progressive the disease has gotten in the past two months I really don't think that I'll be able to make it.”

“I just love Star Wars. With everything I've got, I love Star Wars,” he added.
