Earth need not fear as Spider-Man is being reunited with his fellow Marvel superheroes.

Sony Pictures Entertainment announced that the web swinging superhero will be integrated into the big-screen Marvel Universe alongside Captain America, Thor and Hulk after Disney-owned Marvel Studios signed a deal with the entertainment company.

Bob Iger, Chairman and CEO, The Walt Disney Company said: "Spider-Man is one of Marvel's great characters, beloved around the world. We're thrilled to work with Sony Pictures to bring the iconic web-slinger into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which opens up fantastic new opportunities for storytelling and franchise building."

Spider-man will reportedly make an appearance in a Marvel film before recording the character’s next solo film in 2017, but it is unclear who will take over the role from Andrew Garfield.

Kevin Feige, head of Marvel Studios and former Sony studio head Amy Pascal will produce the film.

Spider-Man is the most successful franchise in Sony’s history, with the five films taking more than $4billion worldwide.
