Sir Ian McKellen and Sir Patrick Stewart made Taylor Swift’s day when they recited the lyrics to two of her songs.

McKellen was asked to recite the words to Bad Blood during an interview with Yahoo to promote his new film Mr Holmes.

The actor channelled his inner Swift as he took on the challenge, adding his own dramatic take to lyrics including: “Cause, baby, now we got bad blood / You know it used to be mad love / So take a look what you've done / 'Cause, baby, now we got bad blood.”

Stewart then decided to try his hand at a recital of Swift’s hit Blank Space during an appearance on NPR's Ask Me Another.

With all the gravitas of Macbeth he bellowed: "Screaming, crying, perfect storms/ I can make all the tables turn/ Rose garden filled with thorns/ Keep you second guessing like/"Oh my God, who is she?"

Keen to get approval from the singer herself Stewart later tweeted their attempts to Swift, writing: “So @IanMcKellen recited Bad Blood and I did Blank Space on @NPRAskMeAnother. May we join the squad, @taylorswift13?”

Clearly honoured by their recitals Swift took to Twitter to praise the pair, posting that they are “ultimate squad goals”.

Alongside a collage of the best friends she tweeted: “Thanks for reciting my lyrics, @IanMcKellen and @SirPatStew! You've made my day. You two are ULTIMATE Squad Goals.”

Ecstatic to have received a response from the multi-award winning singer Stewart posted: “OMG I DIE!!! (no really, I might. I'm old.).”

Swift is currently on the North American leg of her 1989 world tour.

She has been joined by a raft of stars including HAIM and Jason Derulo.

Earlier this week she faced technical difficulties when her extenable stage got stuck in the air.
