Sir Elton John has revealed he does not have a mobile phone and relies on his husband and staff to run his social media accounts.

John, 68, who has more than 700,000 followers on his Instagram and Twitter accounts described himself as a “luddite”.

Speaking on the Jimmy Kimmel Live! show he said: “I don’t have a phone. The office staff run Twitter for me. I don’t do it myself. I just don’t want a phone.”

The singer – who previously revealed that he uses an iPad to keep in touch with his family – said his husband David Furnish, 53, manages his Instagram account.

“I Instagram things but David does that for me,” he told Kimmel. “I am a Luddite.”

The Rocket Man singer isn’t the first celebrity to disengage from mobile phones and social media.

Oscar nominated actor Eddie Redmayne recently admitted to ditching his iPhone in favour of a “simple, old-fashioned handset” in order to “live in the moment”.

Ed Sheeran is currently on a break from social media because he was tired of "seeing the world through a screen and not my eyes".
