Sigma aka Cameron Edwards and Joe Lenzie have admitted that they are keen to work with Kanye West – even though he makes a lot of enemies.

The pair – who have collaborated with Labrinth and secured a number one with Paloma Faith – have a string of famous names they would love to work with including Drake, Snoop Dogg and “Kanye, obviously”.

Speaking about the American rapper, Edwards told the Evening Standard: “Everyone hates Kanye, that’s why we want to work with him. It’s because he’s a bit of a d***. He does say stupid stuff but that’s the way he is. It's comments like that that make him big.”

The duo – who are playing at Thorpe Park Island Beats tonight – recently teamed up with former X Factor star Ella Henderson on their new single Glitterball and were gunning to end Little Mix’s reign at the top of the UK singles chart this week.

They said it was “unfortunate” and “frustrating” that they did not claim number one, but added that getting into the top five was a “big deal” in itself.

“It’s quite unfortunate and quite frustrating because I think everyone looks at the iTunes chart as being the actual chart, but you now take streaming, whereas before that probably would have been the case. You’ve got bigger acts with big online fan bases that get a lot of their music streamed,” Lenzie said.

“I would have been happy with a top 40 to be honest so to get into the top five is quite a big deal, especially because of the background we come from and writing dub music and now suddenly we’re filling the same category as Sam Smith and One Direction.”

Lenzie continued: “For us it’s nice to be able to write stuff that’s commercially excepted in terms of being an act that can introduce that music to young kids who might not have been into it in that way.”

Sigma was speaking on behalf of ISLAND BEATS – a summer season of gigs every Friday and Saturday from now until August 30 at THORPE PARK Resort. For more information go to thorpepark.com.
