Spencer Matthews left shoppers red faced when he jumped out from a crate of tomatoes at Sainsbury’s on Tuesday.

The Made in Chelsea star – who has recently been sunning himself in Barbados with his girlfriend Lauren Hutton – shocked customers at the Wandsworth branch in South London with his Comic Relief stunt.

With his face painted red and wearing a red nose the reality TV star popped his head out of the box of tomatoes to raise awareness for Comic Relief.

Staff at the supermarket were also caught unawares as they had been told that they were being filmed for an internal training video.

Of the stunt, Matthews said: "There were some really entertaining reactions, lots of surprises and a few colleagues who almost jumped out of their skin - it's not something you expect to encounter in the fresh produce aisle!"

Nine noses are available and cost £1 each, with at least 60p going to the charity in order to help the poor and disadvantaged both Africa and at home in the UK.

Comic Relief is on BBC One on March 13.
