A pregnant Kate Winslet looked healthy and happy as she took to the red carpet to promote her latest film.

The Oscar winner, who is expecting her third child, stars as an agoraphobic single mother in Labor Day.

Promoting the drama at Toronto International Film Festival, the Reading-born actress patted her large bump as she posed for photographs on the red carpet in a floor-length V-necked dark blue gown.

Asked what she liked about the film, she said: "I think I like its simplicity and actually I love how much the story is told in looks and spaces.

"There isn't as much as dialogue as I think I've been used to in the past but somehow there's absolutely sufficient story."

Winslet, whose child with new husband Ned RocknRoll is due at the end of the year, said she hoped viewers would engage with the film.

"I would hope that they would feel as if they'd been told a really wonderful story and moved by it in some way. I think that's all I ever hope really. I don't think I can hope for much more," she said.

"I think you always try and find a mixture of strengths and weaknesses in the character. As human beings we all possess both of those qualities. I think it's important to see that in characters in films."

The actress married Mr RocknRoll, the nephew of Virgin tycoon Sir Richard Branson, in New York in December, almost 18 months after they met.

Her co-star Josh Brolin, who plays an escaped convict who Winslet's character lets hide in her home, said he would "love Kate forever".

Speaking of the close bond he and the rest of the cast built during filming, he said: "It's a very extreme scenario and situation, and you really need to like the people that you're with and you really do create a bubble for three months.

"It's totally your family. You've had an experience like no other. I'll love Kate forever."
