Power Rangers reboot: First look at Elizabeth Banks as villainous Rita Repulsa
Movie bosses have released the first image of Elizabeth Banks as Power Rangers villain Rita Repulsa.
Banks, 42, will play the nemesis and archenemy of the superheroes in the forthcoming reboot of the classic TV show.
The picture shows the actress in a menacing reptilian-like green costume complete with green hair, a gold headdress and long gold nails.
It is noticeably different from the black outfit and large headdress worn by Japanese actress Machiko Soga who played the character in the original series.
“It’s definitely a modern and edgy re-imagining of the original Rita Repulsa,” Banks told People.
“We wanted to give her a backstory that connects her to the new Rangers.”
Banks – who has “never played a villain before” – said she is looking forward to "world domination – and being unpredictable as a character”.
Naomi Scott, RJ Cyler, Dacre Montgomery, Ludi Lin and Becky Gomez will play five Power Rangers in the Dean Israelite directed reboot.
Power Rangers is set for UK cinema release on March 24, 2017.
