Paula Abdul was given a shock when an excited contestant took to the stage on So You Think You Can Dance.

Twelve-year-old Chi Tahani impressed Abdul and fellow judges Nigel Lythgoe and Jason Derulo with her energetic dance to Beyonce's single, Countdown – but the excitement at being sent through to the next round got the better of her.

Abdul climbed on stage to congratulate Tahani when she realised the young hopeful didn't look well.

"Are you OK honey?" she asked before Tahani puffed out her cheeks and vomited all over her red suit.

Aware of the young dancer’s nerves the Cold Hearted singer said: "It's OK, honey, it's OK."

A shocked Tahani apologised saying: “I’m so sorry.”

Abdul later joked to the audience: "I've never had anyone just vomit on me like that.”

But despite being sick on a judge, Tahani bounced back and blamed the accident on Abdul who she said squeezed her too hard.

"Well, I hugged Nigel, then I hugged Paula," she told Cat Deeley. "She just squeezed me too tight, and all the happiness came out on her jacket."

Abdul was clearly unfazed and shared a link to the incident on Twitter alongside the caption: "Yep. Lol! That happened."
