Olympic rower Helen Glover and husband Steve Backshall announce birth of baby boy
Double Olympic champion Helen Glover has given birth to a baby boy.
Glover and her husband TV wildlife expert Steve Backshall revealed the news in a series of posts on their social media accounts.
The Team GB rower had been expecting twins but lost one of the babies in April.
Announcing the birth on Tuesday, the gold medallist said she was "excited to welcome Baby Boy Backshall" to the world.
"We promise to make it a great one for you little man”, she added.
Steve Backshall wrote on Twitter: "The biggest adventure begins."
After sharing the news the couple received scores of messages from well-wishers.
Ben Fogle and England rugby star Ben Morgan were quick to offer their “huge congratulations”.
In April, Glover broke the news that she had lost one of the twins.
She wrote on social media: “Thanks for all your lovely messages. We've had the hard news that one baby hasn't made it.
“But we are very excited and hopeful for the remaining baby to arrive this summer xx.”
Backshall echoed his wife’s comments as he wrote on Twitter at the time: “Many thanks for all your kind messages.
“We’ve had the news that one twin has not survived, but are still looking forward to our new addition this summer. Sb.”
