Piers Morgan was booed as he arrived on stage to present a prize at this year’s National Television Awards.

The Good Morning Britain host, who controversially feuded with actor Ewan McGregor this week, wore a gag around his mouth as he was joined by co-presenter Susanna Reid on Wednesday night.

Standing with his arms folded, Morgan was silent as he was greeted by a chorus of boos, while Reid took the limelight.

“It's been a controversial week on Good Morning Britain. We've had tears, we've had tantrums – we've even had a walkout,” she said.

"So I've done what people have been urging me to do for some time… I've finally gagged Piers Morgan. Just enjoying this moment.”

Morgan publically blasted Scottish actor McGregor this week after he pulled out of an interview at the last minute.

The Trainspotting star said he did not want to be interviewed by Morgan following his controversial remarks about the Women’s March, prompting Morgan to rip into him in his column for MailOnline and on Good Morning Britain.

“By refusing to be interviewed by me simply because I have a different opinion about a political march, McGregor revealed himself to be a narrow-minded, stupendously self-aggrandising, anti-democratic little twerp,” Morgan wrote.

The broadcaster also angered a number of viewers by saying that he didn’t think it was ‘unreasonable’ for some employers to insist female staff wear heels to work.
