The partner of Bobbi Kristina Brown has been ordered by a US judge to pay $36 million (£29 million) over her wrongful death.

Brown, daughter of singers Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown, died six months after being found face-down in a bath at her Atlanta home in January last year.

Her family accused partner Nick Gordon, pictured left with Brown, of giving her a “toxic mixture” before putting her face-down in the water. He has not been charged with any crime.

Brown, 22, died in hospice care after a long coma. Her death was similar to her mother’s in 2012.

In September Judge Bedford ruled at Fulton County Superior Court that Gordon had repeatedly failed to meet deadlines in the civil suit so the conservator of Brown’s estate won by default.

The judge last night awarded damages of $36,250,000, the estate’s lawyers said in a statement.

Gordon was not in court but last year his lawyers said the allegations were baseless. The district attorney’s office yesterday said Brown’s death is still under investigation.
