Bond stars Naomie Harris and Halle Berry posed on the red carpet at an LA event honouring the role of black actresses in the franchise.

The A-listers, who have both starred in James Bond films, were joined by Trina Parks and Gloria Hendry at the California African American Museum on Tuesday night.

Spectre actress Harris, 39, who plays Eve Moneypenny, wore a red mini-dress for the gala evening, during which her cover for Essence magazine was unveiled.

Berry, who starred opposite Pierce Brosnan in 2002’s Die Another Day, spoke at the event, standing alongside Harris.

Harris has been vocal about banning the term ‘Bond girls’ from future films, insisting that the term is ‘demeaning’.

In an interview with The Independent, Harris said she was “not happy” with the label, adding:

SPECTRE world premiere

“Monica [Bellucci] is 50 and I think it's respectable to say she's a Bond woman.

“It's quite demeaning to call her a girl. So I think it's time we had a little change there.”

The actress went on to say that Léa Seydoux’s character, psychologist Dr Madeleine Swann, is nothing like the traditional female Bond role.

She said: “She (Swann) is supposed to have the traditional role of being rescued, but actually she rejects his help and is like 'I've got this, I'll do this on my own.’

"She certainly isn't a weak, Bond girl of old that needs rescuing. She's quite capable and independent."
