Ashley Jensen has moved out of London and put her career on hold to spend more time with her four-year-old son.

The 44-year-old star of Ugly Betty and Extras revealed that she has moved to Bath to give her son Frankie a better quality of life.

The switch has seen the Scottish actress step away from the spotlight — her latest TV appearance was in the BBC’s The Escape Artist last month and her most recent West End performance was A Chorus of Disapproval, which finished in January.

She told the Standard that she and husband Terence Beesley decided to move to “spend more time with Frankie. He’s four now and you only get one chance when they’re that age. I want to focus on being a mum at the moment. He’s just had his nativity play and I spent days making a shepherd’s costume for him — I was trawling the second-hand shops of Bath and I absolutely loved it.”

Jensen met Beesley, an actor and writer, while they were both performing in Sir Tom Courtenay’s King Lear in 1999. She also revealed they have been working together. Speaking at the English National Ballet’s Christmas party, she added: “We’re trying to get our own project off the ground. We work really well together.

“I’m just waiting for the right part to come along — I don’t feel under any pressure at all. I’m just enjoying being a mum.”
