Maura Higgins has admitted she threatened to leave Love Island after storming out of the villa.

The former grid girl, 28, revealed that she told producers she “wanted to go home” as she struggled to find love on the show.

Speaking on her new Boohoo podcast Get The Scoop, Higgins said she “cried so many times” as “things get very heightened” in the villa.

“I’m so proud of the fact I didn’t give up because I was going to,” she said.

“I actually stormed out of the villa and said, ‘I want to go home, I can’t do it any more, I can’t find a man.’

“I’m so proud that I got the strength to stay and carry on.”

She revealed that her “best moment” on the show was coupling up with boyfriend Curtis Pritchard, while her worst” was “missing [her] sister’s wedding and [her] niece’s birthday.”

“It was also my best friend’s two year anniversary while I was away,” she added. “I cried so many times.”

“You have a lot of good moments, but then you have a lot of bad moments, but then you have a lot of bad moments in there too because things get very heightened.”

Higgins and Pritchard eventually came in fourth place in the dating contest, behind Ovie Soko and India Reynolds (in third place), runners-up Molly-Mae Hague and Tommy Fury and winners Amber Gill and Greg O’Shea.

The reality star also explained that she chose to “take a few days off” in the aftermath of the series, as she “couldn’t deal with everything.”

“It was all a bit too much,” she said. “I couldn’t cope, I needed a break to process everything.”

Since her stint in the Love Island villa, Higgins has landed a presenting job on This Morning.

She is set to host a phone in segment on the daytime show, in which she will provide viewers with advice, and will also front a strand called Maura Than Meets The Eye, which will see her take on challenges up and down the country.
