Mariah Carey has pulled out of a scheduled concert at the last minute due to illness, just a week after beginning her Las Vegas residency.

The superstar, who kicked off the show with a bang earlier in the month, cancelled her show on Wednesday, leaving many fans disappointed.

While the singer didn’t personally announce the cancellation, leaving it to Caesar’s Palace officials, she did later tweet about it.

After the venue posted a sign offering no explanation as to why Carey has pulled out, she revealed that it was due to bronchitis.

She wrote on Twitter: “Hey guys.. I've been fighting bronchitis for the past few days.. almost better but on mandatory vocal rest per doctor's orders.”

She added: “I'm so sorry to cancel tonight's show but I promise to make it up to you!!! Love you always, MC.”

It seems that there had been no expense spared when the glitzy show opened last week, featuring a six-piece live band, two DJs and ten backing dancers.

Some of the jaw-dropping on-stage props include a gold jet ski, a pink Thunderbird convertible and an enormous pair of butterfly wings.

Despite the budget, which has been pumped into the production, tickets are yet to sell out, with seats for the 18-day residency still available.

Fellow diva Jennifer Lopez has just announced a residency for next year, following in the footsteps of Carey and Britney Spears.
