Malia Obama gives sister Sasha cheeky thumbs up as she steals moment with Ryan Reynolds
Malia Obama was captured giving her sister a cheeky thumbs up gesture as she introduced herself to Ryan Reynolds.
Malia, 17, couldn’t resist joking with her younger sibling Sasha, 14, as she chatted to the Deadpool actor at a state dinner in honour of Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in Washington DC.
She was caught smiling on camera as she made the gesture alongside an unaware Sasha and Reynolds.
The image soon went viral with online users tweeting their appreciation.
The event marked the sisters’ first state dinner since their father, Barack Obama, was elected President in 2008.
According to ABC, the President was overcome with emotion as he made a speech about his daughters.
"When I first elected to this office, Malia was just 10 and Sasha was seven,” he told guests. “And they grow up too fast. Now Malia is going off to college... and I'm starting to choke up."
Trudeau also acknowledged the sisters in his speech in which he praised their “extraordinary strength”.
Reynolds was joined at the event by his wife Blake Lively who looked stunning in a blue satin gown.
Other guests included Mike Myers, Michael J Fox and actress Sandra Oh.
