Love Island couple Jessica Sheers and Dominic Lever have been slammed after they revealed they never officially got married live on Good Morning Britain.

The reality TV pair said their vows in front of shocked viewers at 8.30am on Wednesday’s show, to mark Valentine’s Day.

Newly-ordained presenter Richard Arnold ‘married’ the couple, who read out their vows under a heart-shaped flower wall.

Staying true to their Love Island background, Sheers wore a white bikini and veil, while Lever simply wore white shorts and a black bow tie.

But fans were outraged after Sheers revealed that the ceremony was a “joke” ahead of their “real wedding” later this year.

She wrote: “So many people getting their knickers in a twist this morning about mine and @_DomLever Valentines Wedding on @GMB We had such a laugh and can’t wait for the REAL wedding now in October #learntotakeajokekids.”

One viewer slammed the couple for their “attention-seeking” behaviour.

Another viewer wrote: “Jokes have gotta be funny... this wasn't funny.”

A third said: “Its people like you that make the divorce rate so high .. marriage is not a joke.”

Another wrote: “I didn’t think getting married was a joke though?”

Some fans jumped to the couple’s defence, branding the mock wedding “funny.”

Sheers and Lever got engaged last September after meeting and falling in love on the show back in July.

They had previously said that they planned to tie the knot in a lavish ceremony on the Greek island of Mykonos surrounded by friends and family.
