Louise Redknapp is set to tread the boards for the first time as she makes her stage debut in Cabaret.

The former pop star and Strictly Come Dancing contestant will play iconic character Sally Bowles alongside Will Young in the UK tour of the much-loved musical.

Redknapp, 42, will take on the lead role Rufus Norris’ production of the musical based on Christopher Isherwood’s Goodbye to Berlin, while Young will reprise the role of the Emcee.

The former solo artist, who appeared alongside Redknapp in last year’s Strictly, won an Olivier Award for the role back in 2012.

Cabaret will open at the New Wimbledon Theatre on September 21 and will play at theatres in Blackpool, Cardiff, Brighton, Leeds, Milton Keynes, Salford, Bromley and Edinburgh.

The musical is set in Berlin in 1932 and follows the romance between a young American writer and a Cabaret performer.

The new production is being choreographed by Javier De Frutos and features music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb.

Redknapp, who rose to fame in 1990s girl group Eternal, made it to the Strictly final in 2016 while Young dropped out after just a few weeks.

Speaking about his decision to quit the BBC dancing show, Young recently said that he had made the decision for his own “wellbeing.”

“It was important for me to leave Strictly for my own wellbeing,” he told the Times Magazine.

“It was a number of things. It was nothing to do with the people on the show, and it certainly wasn’t because Len Goodman dissed my salsa – I mean, come on!

“I love dance, and because of the stuff that was going on personally, I just wasn’t enjoying the dancing.”
