Lorraine Kelly didn’t hold back as she slammed Donald Trump Jr.

The talk show host, 60, gave a short shrift aimed at the eldest son of US president Donald Trump after a picture of him hunting an elephant resurfaced on social media.

Both Trump Jr, 42, and his brother Eric are frequent big game hunters, with photos of Trump Jr holding an elephant’s tail from a 2011 safari trip currently circulating on Twitter.

When one Twitter user used the picture of the businessman in order to gain momentum for his petition on getting trophy hunting banned, Good Morning Britain host Kelly wrote: “What a w*****.”

It seems Kelly’s outburst may have shocked some of her 610,000 Twitter followers, who are more used to see her as the smiley and light-hearted host of breakfast television.

“Surprised at your language Lorraine!” wrote one follower.

However, people were generally in agreement on Kelly’s outburst, with one writing: “I literally want to be sick seeing this, these people should be arrested for this.”

Another said: “Oh my God such disrespect to such a proud animal I just despair.”

Kelly is a known animal lover, with her border terrier dog Angus having previously featured on her own Lorraine show.

She has recently paid tribute to her pup, thanking him for helping her through the difficulties of the coronavirus lockdown.

"I honestly don't know what I'd do without this wee fella right now,” she wrote on Instagram. “Angus is a just bundle of energy, he makes me laugh and he (sometimes) lets me cuddle him.”

Elsewhere, Donald Trump Jr has previously defended his trophy hunting, saying “outrage” he has been on the receiving end of has been misplaced.

He told Forbes columnist Frank Miniter in 2012: “Elephants are overpopulated in the area the Trumps hunted and so need to be hunted to prevent them from further destroying their habitat.”
