David Brent is ‘doing what he does best’ in the official trailer for Life on the Road.

Ricky Gervais’s cringeworthy alter ego is attempting to carve out a career as an entertainer in an attempt to wave goodbye to his job as a travelling salesman for Lavichem.

Brent teams up with session musicians as he follows his dream of rock stardom with his band Foregone Conclusion.

The office worker can be seen on stage as he takes one last shot at fame and fortune – but the crowd aren’t impressed.

Brent is shown shooting a “fat girl in the face with a t-shirt gun” and making jokes about "the handicapped".

Rapper Dom (Ben Bailey Smith) tells viewers Brent has him “rapping about a lot of weird s***” before telling the camera: “You think it’s painful to watch – I have to stand next to him.”

Life on the Road is set 12 years after The Office and follows Brent as he funds a UK tour with Forgone Conclusion.

Razorlight and We Are Scientists drummer Andy Burrows plays a member of Brent's band while other roles include Jo Hartley as love-struck colleague Pauline, Tom Basden as Brent’s road manager Dan, Andrew Brooke as Brent's office enemy Jezza, Nina Sosanya as his therapist and a cameo from Peter Andre.

Gervais has said that the film could mark his last outing as Brent.

"I said I'd never bring back The Office and I won't - this isn't that. This is David Brent now - what he's doing now," he told Digital Spy.

"There might be spin offs from that - I want to bring an album out of the soundtrack and I want to do some live gigs, so he might pop up now and again.

"But as a huge big project - a series of David Brent, or The Office, or another movie – probably not."

Life On The Road is set for UK cinema release on August 19.
