Britpop rivalry between Oasis and Blur appears to be water under the bridge as Liam Gallagher has branded Blur’s new single the “song of the year”.

The former Oasis frontman tweeted his appreciation of the band’s single Lonseome Street from their new album, The Magic Whip.

Taking to Twitter, Gallagher posted: “Lonesome St by BLUR song of the year LG x.”

Gallagaher’s admission may come as a shock to fans who have been very aware of the singer's long running feud with Blur.

In 2012 he labelled Albarn, Brian Cox, Alex James and Dave Rowntree “pansies” and criticised Noel for duetting with Albarn at London's Royal Albert Hall for a Teenage Cancer Trust gig in 2013 which saw Noel play guitar for a performance of Blur's hit, Tender.

Last month, reports suggested that Liam and his brother Noel have reached a "gentleman's agreement' to reform Oasis.

Neither Gallagher brothers have commented on the news.

Blur are set to headline British Summertime in Hyde Park on June 20, before headline sets at Isle of Wight festival and Benicassim in Spain.

Despite rumours following their reunion, drummer Rowntree confirmed that the band will not be performing at Glastonbury Festival.
