Girls actress Lena Dunham stripped down to her lingerie in celebration of Memorial Day in America.

Dunham, 29, posted a photo to her Instagram account showing her striking a pose in her bathroom dressed in a green two-piece from Lonely Lingerie.

The actress even joked about wearing the ensemble out to dinner with nothing but a pair of boots.

She captioned the photo: “Love my @LonelyLingerie and I think I will wear it to dinner with some boots & a smile because we are all very lucky to be free.”

Dunham then uploaded a photo of her boyfriend Jack Antonoff, wearing a blazer and sunglasses alongside the caption: "Holiday swagger."

Dunham recently hired celebrity personal trainer Tracey Anderson to help her keep fit.

Speaking to David Letterman about why she invested in a trainer she said: "Part of the reason I wanted to do it was because I was losing my breath when I walked up a stair."

She recently told fans that exercising has also helped her combat her anxiety.

In an Instagram post of herself working out at the gym she wrote: "To those struggling with anxiety, OCD, depression: I know it's mad annoying when people tell you to exercise, and it took me about 16 medicated years to listen.

"I'm glad I did. It ain't about the ass, it's about the brain."
