Lea Michele posts heartfelt tweet and throwback photo to mark the second anniversary of Cory Monteith's death

Actress Lea Michele has posted a throwback photo of former boyfriend Cory Monteith to mark the second anniversary of his tragic death.

The Glee star, whose other half died from a drug overdose back in 2013, tweeted a heartfelt message alongside an old photo of the actor on Monday afternoon.

She wrote: "Today we remember the laughter and joy you brought into our lives every day. We think of you always and love you so."

The personal photo shows the tragic star - who was just 31 when he died - smiling while driving along a road with a sunset in the background.

Michele, 28, who met Monteith on the set of Glee in 2008, was in a relationship with him from 2011 until his death in July 2013, and is now dating actor and model Matthew Paetz.

The actress has credited Paetz for helping her through a difficult period in her life, writing on Twitter on his birthday:

"Matthew, thank you for bringing such happiness into my life. For making me smile again and bringing such a bright joy into my every day…

"Thank you for loving me and my family…And of course Sheila too…May this be the happiest Birthday ever!”

Much-loved Glee star Monteith was found dead in his hotel room in Vancouver after overdosing on a combination of alcohol and heroin.
