Lauren Platt narrowly missed out on reaching the X Factor finals after losing to Andrea Faustini in the sing off on Sunday night.

The 17-year-old star took to the stage to perform Faith Hill's There You'll Be before Italian singer Andrea belted out Who You Are by Jessie J.

Platt’s mentor Cheryl Fernandez-Versini decided to “stick with [her] heart and soul” and save Lauren, while Mel B saved her boy Andrea who she said “took it to church yet again”.

Louis Walsh – who lost his final act, Stereo Kicks in the quarter final last week – also voted to save Andrea.

The deciding vote was left with Simon Cowell who chose to save Andrea.

He said: “Lauren you've had two good sing offs in a row.

“Andrea there were parts of the song that you over singing, but you can’t argue with your passion.

“I'm going to go with the person who deserves a place in the final - I'm going to send home Lauren.”

Cheryl bowed down to her mentee as she thanked viewers for their support, and Cheryl for sticking by her.

She said: “I want to say thank you to the most incredible woman I've ever met in my life for sticking with me and giving me this opportunity.”

Fleur East, Ben Haenow and Andrea then took to the stage having made the final, before being escorted off by Dermot O’Leary and put on personalised tour buses to start their week long campaign for votes.

Special guests included 2013 winner Sam Bailey and Let It Go singer Idina Menzel, who was joined on stage by Michael Bublé for a rendition of Christmas favourite, Baby, It's Cold Outside.

Some fans were left angry with the way the pair giggled through verses and how crooner Bublé put on a series of silly voices.
