James Corden says he has not bought a house in Los Angeles because he fears his American late night chat show could be “cancelled at any point”.

The 36-year-old Briton, who relocated with his family to the US earlier this year to present The Late Late Show on television network CBS, has largely been received well — but speaking to the Standard he said he still doesn’t feel established enough to buy a house.

He said: “I’ve adjusted well so far, I think. We’re still not going to buy somewhere. It’s still very much in the back of my mind that we’ll be cancelled at any point. This show isn’t about playing to my strengths, it’s about finding a way to ignore my weaknesses. I think we’re managing to get away with that so far.”

Corden added: “I miss my friends and family. There’s a weird thing that happens at 2pm when you realise even if you wanted to you couldn’t phone them.

“I miss West Ham very much and I’m very worried. I hope they stick with Sam Allardyce. I’m intrigued as to what our transfer policy is going to be in the summer.

“I also really miss the theatre but hopefully we’re going to get to do a few more Crosswalk Musicals [segments] on the show which will fulfil my deep love of it.”

Sketches such as Corden getting half naked with David Beckham and re-creating Basic Instinct’s leg-crossing scene with Michael Douglas, as well as guests including One Direction and Tom Hanks, have resulted in the show becoming a viral phenomenon with 15 clips generating more than a million views on YouTube.

However he has come under some criticism from rival shows who claim he has recycled their material.

Future guests on Corden’s show include Noel Gallagher and he added his guest wish list includes Justin Bieber, Rod Stewart and Prince.

Corden said: “I’m surprised at how quickly we’ve found our feet. These shows are historically bad when they first start and they only get better with time so that makes me very excited to see where we’ll be in a year’s time.

“I just hope we’re making people laugh — that’s all we can do. Or at least make them smile.”
