Lady Gaga electrifies Superbowl 51 with a barn-storming half time show

Lady Gaga reached new heights at the 51st Super Bowl early today with a barn-storming performance which began on the stadium roof.

Running through all her favourite hits,the 30 year old staged one of the best ever half time shows gracing a game which wrote itself into the history books.

The performance began on top of Houston's NRG Stadium with a score of drones above her head lit up in the shape and colours of the United States flag.

After singing God Bless America and This Land is Your Land she then plunged more than 100 foot attached to wires flipping onto a stage built in the centre of the Texas pitch.

While fireworks went off around her, she sang a medley of her hits including Poker Face,Just Dance and The Edge of Glory.

Dressed in a Versace metallic body suit and boots, she was then joined by several dancers in futuristic outfits on stage while scores of fans surrounded the platform waving lit iPhones.

After a vigorous rendition of gay anthem Born This Way, Gaga took time out to play the piano for a version of Million Reasons.

There was then a costume change into a football outfit with shoulder pads and a jewelled pair of bikini bottoms for Bad Romance before finishing the set by dropping the mic,catching a football and jumping off stage.

There had been speculation she would use the opportunity of performing in front of a global audience of more than 110 million to make a political point to President Donald Trump.

But despite Vice President Mike Pence being in the crowd,her performance was more about making music.

Some of the TV adverts aired in the US were seen as controversial with brewers of Budweiser Anheuser-Busch, Airbnb and Audi referencing immigrantation and diversity.

On the pitch, it was the New England Patriots, owned by billionaire Robert Kraft who is a friend of President Trump, who staged a dramatic come back win.

Trailing 28-3 at half time to the Atlanta Falcons, the Patriots, inspired by controversial quarter back Tom Brady,won 34-28 in the first ever Super Bowl to need overtime to settle it.

Brady was watched by his wife Gisele Bundchen and his family. Other celebrities included Mark Wahlberg and Donatella Versace.
