Kristen Stewart has said that her relationship with Robert Pattinson was ‘made into a product’ thanks to Twilight fans.

The US actress, 26, who is now in a relationship with her former assistant Alicia Cargile, felt like her romance with the British actor wasn’t ‘real life’.

In a candid interview with T Magazine, Stewart admits that the pressure put on the six-year relationship contributed to the couple’s eventual split.

“People wanted me and Rob to be together so badly that our relationship was made into a product,” she said.

“It wasn’t real life anymore. And that was gross to me,” Stewart added. “It’s not that I want to hide who I am or hide anything I’m doing in my life.

“It’s that I don’t want to become part of a story for entertainment value. I’m not the typical showman. But at the same time, I want so badly to expose myself.”

The actress, who recently confirmed her relationship with Cargile, feels more confident about discussing her private life than she used to.

“I would never talk about any of my relationships before, but once I started dating girls it seemed like there was an opportunity to represent something really positive.”

“I still want to protect my personal life, but I don’t want to seem like I’m protecting the idea, so that does sort of feel like I owe something to people.”

Speaking out about her new relationship for the first time last month, Stewart told Elle Magazine:

“I think ... right now I’m just really in love with my girlfriend.

“We’ve broken up a couple of times and gotten back together, and this time I was like, ‘Finally, I can feel again.’”

Stewart and Pattinson first started dating in 2008 and eventually split in 2014.
