Kate Garraway has thanked a fan who sent her a hopeful message about her husband Derek Draper.

In March, Draper was admitted to hospital with Covid-19 and treated in intensive care.

The 52-year-old has since been given the all-clear for coronavirus but remains critically ill after the illness damaged his lungs, heart, and kidneys and left him diabetic.

With Draper in an induced coma, Garraway has now responded to a fan who sent a kind message of support on social media.

Writing on Twitter, a fan wrote: “Keep going with the messages he is hanging on, for a reason, for you, the kids, he has to come back to you all and he will.”

The Twitter user then encouraged Garraway to watch a video about Lincoln Hall, a climber who survived a deadly night on Mt Everest in which he was unconscious and presumed dead.

“Try to watch the you tube clip about Lincoln Hall, he explains about the stages of unconsciousness that he came back from. Big hugs," they wrote.

Sharing the tweet, Garraway wrote: “Thanks - will do xxx.”

On Father's Day, Garraway shared a heartfelt note for Draper, with whom she has two children.

Calling him the “best dad ever,” Garraway wrote that Draper is “never happier” than when he is with their children.

“Whatever happens next I’m afraid it is going to be a long road, with an uncertain end that isn’t even nearly in sight right now,” she said.

“But this week I am refocusing on hope that as a family we are going to pull together with the support of friends and get through everything come what may.”

The “amazing people keeping Derek alive stand shoulder to shoulder with me in never giving up on him and, of course, hope that my wonderful Derek is going to keep fighting this and eventually start to slowly recover”, she added.
