Kate Beckinsale has posted an emotional tribute to her late father Richard who died when she was just five years old.

The actress, who stars in upcoming ITV drama The Widow, shared a series of snaps of her father, including several with her as a baby, 40 years after he died aged 31.

Some snaps also showed Richard in character, having appeared in several British sitcoms including Porridge and Rising Damp, appearing alongside comedy icons such as Ronnie Barker.

Kate, 45, wrote: “40 years is a lot of missing. Thank you so much to everyone who has been kind. Lots of love xx #march19.”

Beneath her post, fans rushed to support her and send love to the actress and her family on the sad anniversary.

One wrote: “A lot of fond memories watching Porridge and Rising Damp with my pops. Richard's always been a favourite, someone my family have always enjoyed watching. All the best.”

Another said: “Forever a legend. Love porridge laugh so hard watching him and Ronnie together.”

“He will always be missed but never forgotten,” somebody else wrote.

The actor died suddenly in his sleep in 1979 after suffering a massive heart attack. It was later revealed that he had had a congenital defect.
