Julie Walters lost an earring worth “more than her house” at the BAFTAs.

Walters, 65, arrived on the red carpet in a blue sequin dress which she teamed with the expensive drop earrings.

But as she took to the stage to accept the Outstanding British Film award for her latest film Brooklyn she realised she was missing something.

Walters later revealed that she had borrowed the earrings for the evening and was having trouble finding the missing one.

“These earrings are borrowed and they are probably the same price as my house,” she said. “And as I got up on stage I realised one of them was not there.

“Somebody’s found a bit of it, but even that is probably worth more than my house, so I need to look around.”

Walter’s film Brooklyn was among the big winners at Sunday night’s ceremony which saw Leonardo DiCaprio awarded the Best Actor gong for his role as fur trapper Hugh Glass in The Revenant. The actor thanked his mother Irmelin for her support and wished her a Happy Birthday.

Brie Larson was awarded the Best Actress gong for her role in Room but was unable to attend.

Kate Winslet was crowned Best Supporting Actress for her role in Steve Jobs while Mark Rylance scooped the Best Supporting Actor for Bridge of Spies.
