DJ Jonas Blue has limited the number of big artists he works with to ensure fans focus on his music rather than just who he is collaborating with.

The star, 29, said that despite working with singers such as Liam Payne and Joe Jonas, he has tried to maintain a “balance” on his new album, Blue.

He told the Standard: “I wanted to explore new talent and there’s established acts and other people but it’s been great to have the new up-and-coming talent on this.”

He added that he wanted people to focus on the music and judge a song based on merit rather than by who the artist is.

“There’s benefits of having established artists on the record, Liam Payne on Polaroid for example. If you look at that song you have Lennon Stella who’s an up-and-coming artist so there’s a balance on there because I still want people to focus on the song just as much as Liam being an amazing superstar.”

The songwriter and producer from Essex, real name Guy Robin, added that he created an album in a bid to gain credibility as an artist, despite having over five billion streams and 30 million single sales worldwide.

The four-time BRIT award nominee said: “I think some people have this thing where just because you do singles that means you’re not a real artist. It’s like hold on a minute — I’m selling millions of records here and been streamed billions of times ...

“How can I not be taken as a real artist just because these songs are singles? So it was like, let’s do an album and do something different.

“I would like to think it’s just that one last step to help prove myself and try different things out.”

Blue said that he has started his own record label, Jonas Blue Music, in a bid to help develop the new talent featured on his album. He said: “I always knew that I wanted to set up a record label to help develop people because I have experience from X amount of years I’ve been doing it now so the idea was find these artists who can sing on your songs and develop them. It’s a breath of fresh air having these artists.”

Blue is out on November 9
