JK Rowling sent the Harry Potter books to a young girl in Syria after her mother reached out on Twitter.

The author made seven-year-old Bana Alabed’s wish come true after her mother revealed that they had no way of finding the series in war-torn Aleppo.

Messaging the world famous writer on Twitter, Fatemah said that her daughter had seen all of the films and now wanted to read the books.

“Hi @jk_rowling I watched Harry Potter movie, Bana would like to read the book.- Fatemah #Aleppo,” she wrote.

Noticing the tweet, Rowling wrote back: “Bana, I hope you do read the book, because I think you'd like it. Sending you lots and lots of love xxx.”

Fatemah replied, saying: “She wants to but we don't have it here. We watched the movie before. How do we get?”

“I do know that, sadly. I would love to send Bana a book if I could,” Rowling wrote back.

A member of the author’s team then got in touch to say that they were keen to send the series on an eBook.

Just days later Bana had received the eBook and posted a Twitter message to Rowling to say thank you.

The little girl held up a sign, which read: “Thank you my friend JK Rowling for the books.”

“Bana, this made me so happy! Lots of love to you and your brothers! #StandWithAleppo,” Rowling replied.

Bana and her mother Fatemah have been tweeting throughout the Syrian conflict from eastern Aleppo, which saw its last functioning hospital bombed at the end of last week.
