James Martin is banned from making omelettes in public.

Martin, 43, has revealed that a clause in his BBC contract has banned him from making the egg-based treat in a public place.

The chef – who oversaw the Omelette Challenge on Saturday Morning Kitchen – told Heat: “I’m pretty sure there’s a clause in the contract somewhere that I’m not allowed to make an omelette in public.

“I’m not allowed to skydive, I’m not allowed to deep-sea dive, and then, ‘Not allowed to make an omelette in public.’"

Martin continued: “People would do all these ridiculous things on social media now and put it out there, like, ‘Oh, he’s made an omelette.’ The whole point about it is that I’ve not made one. So, there you go. Legally, not allowed to make one.”

Martin’s comments come a week after he announced his departure from the popular cookery show after a decade.

“I would like to personally thank all the viewers for turning Saturday Kitchen into a three million-plus smash hit. I could not have done it without them,” he said.

“I would also like to thank the BBC and Saturday Kitchen for the great opportunity they gave me. It has been an amazing journey and I have been privileged to work with some of the world’s greatest chefs and some of the greatest names in showbiz.

“I wish the new chefs every success. I am looking forward to getting stuck into my new projects and to lots of lie-ins on a Saturday morning.”
