The official date for the world premiere of the latest James Bond instalment was released today.

Fans were put out of their misery when the 007 Twitter account announced that the world premiere of SPECTRE will be held in London on October 26.

The Sam Mendes directed film will also be released in cinemas across the UK and Ireland on the same date.

The tweet read: “The #SPECTRE World Premiere will be in London on October 26. The film will open on the same night in cinemas across UK and Ireland,” the tweet read.

Filming for the 24th instalment in the franchise starring Daniel Craig as Bond and Christoph Waltz as Franz Oberhauser has taken place in several locations across the capital.

Last month fans lined Vauxhall Bridge with the hope of catching a glimpse of Craig as he filmed a high speed boat chase on the River Thames.

Streets were forced to close around Trafalgar Square, The Mall and Whitehall as the cast filmed a car chase across the city.

Although the artist who has recorded the film's song is yet to be confirmed, Ellie Goulding has been linked to the role.

Sam Smith teased her involvement during an interview with Capital FM Breakfast where he ruled himself out but said: "I heard Ellie Goulding was going to do it, I heard loads of different things but it's definitely not me."

Goulding further fuelled speculation when she posted a cryptic tweet reading: "Live and let die."
